Take your diving to the next level with the Advanced Scuba Diver Course. Build confidence, master advanced techniques, and explore deeper, longer, and with greater comfort—all while protecting the ocean. Includes six exciting open-water dives, from deep and night diving to navigation and more.
About the Course
This course is an introduction to several important specialties – Night Diving, Deep Diving and Advanced Navigation, but more importantly it focuses on improving dive skills such as buoyancy control, trim and position, and finning techniques making you truly worthy of the ‘Advanced Diver’ designation.
What to Expect in Your NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver Course
1) Course Orientation & Knowledge Development
- Complete required Medical Forms and Waiver. (These can be downloaded on the ‘Enrollment’ page).
Review advanced dive techniques, navigation, and safety protocols.
Online academic modules cover topics like deep diving, night/low-visibility diving, and environmental awareness.
2) Skill Review and Check Dive
Refresh essential open water skills if it’s been a while since your last dives.
Focus on buoyancy control, safety procedures, and equipment checks.
- Focus on basic in-water rescue skills (for non-NAUI certified Open Water Divers)
3) Advanced Open Water Training Dives
You’ll complete a minimum of 6 open water dives, including these core experiences:
Advanced Navigation Dive(s) – Practice compass use, natural navigation, and underwater orientation.
Deep Dive – Safely explore deeper depths (up to 40m / 130ft, with instructor guidance).
- Night Dive – Learn the techniques and equipment needed to explore the underwater world after dark.
- Advanced Buoyancy Control, Finning Techniques and SMB Deployment – Learn the techniques necessary to control your buoyancy, trim and position like a pro. New finning techniques will allow you longer bottom times as well as protection for the environment.
- Other dives as needed.
4) Instructor Debriefs
After each dive, your instructor will review your performance, highlight improvements, and answer questions.
You’ll log your dives and review key learning points.
5) Certification & Beyond
Upon successful completion, you’ll earn your NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver certification.
This prepares you for continuing education course and eventually leadership-level courses.
What to Bring
Bring swimwear, towel, light snack, water, sunscreen, ID/cash and sea-sickness meds if you need them.
